It was a momentous evening in the boys' lives. Right up there with those important life milestones like learning to crawl... learning to walk... learning to talk... the first day of school... the first loose tooth... Tonight was the boys' first viewing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. [Cue sound effect: angelic choir singing the Hallelujah chorus]
It had enough physical comedy to keep 4 year old YB's attention, and he watched and laughed with us. For 7-year old ES though, when I put him in bed about an hour after the movie ended, he was uncontrollably giggling and mumbling something about, "...and Joseph held the Holy Hand Grenade on high saying, Lord, bless this thine hand grenade, that it may blow thine enemies to tiny bits in thine mercy." After we said bedtime prayers, I said goodnight and started to walk out of the room and was assaulted with a "NI!" and more giggling from the top bunk.
LW just let out a grooooooan...

Ahhh, I look forward to this milestone in our home.
Sure, there are "funny bits" in this movie, but there are sexual references and gory violence (i.e. the knight who gets his limbs hacked off, with blood spurting) in this movie, but I don't know if it's appropriate for young kids. Didn't those scenes make you feel uncomfortable with your kids watching?
Sonarman - I kept control of the DVD remote and I skipped the scenes that I thought were inappropriate. We did NOT watch the movie in it's entirety.
I am groaning along with LW...and hoping I can keep LS and Little Man from this for a while...or just go to the spa or something when they watch it :)
