If only they had a smaller size

We happened upon this while strolling through the NEX a few days ago. ES immediately siezed it and insisted it was the bestest, funniest t-shirt ever made. I thought it was pretty funny, too. If they had smaller sizes, I might have bought one for ES.

The daily battles we fight with ES to get him to do his homework really drive me (and LW) nuts. What the heck do we have to do to get him to understand that he could get it done in 30 minutes and have the rest of the afternoon to play? It's almost as if he has multiple personality syndrome. Some days he does GREAT and finishes his homework in the car before he even gets home. Yesterday he was really excited to watch a new DVD we got (more on that one later) and cheerfully and enthusiastically did his homework and brought it to me to check his work. Today, we're back to Mr. Hyde the angry, disagreeable, unwilling-to-do-his-homework personality.

Warning: Tangent Ahead

Lately, I keep saying to myself, "Self, you've become some sort of a cold heartless bastard." Clearly I don't remember what it was like to be a kid, because I find that I tend to be unsympathetic to some of the high-pitched whining that comes after any request to do anything that doesn't involve legos, pizza, staying up late at night, or waking up the adults in the house at the butt-crack of dawn.

Then, last night, I was flipping through the channels on TV and came upon Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It's been a LONG time since I last saw that movie. It was on the part of the movie where class-clown and degenerate Spicoli comes to the history class with Mr. Hand.

As a teenager, I thought I was fairly clean-cut and followed the rules (most of the time), so I would NOT say I admired or agreed with Spicoli's nonsense. At the same time, watching that movie as a teenager, I thought Mr. Hand was a real jerk. I related to the teenagers in the class and wondered why Mr. Hand had to be so mean.

Last night, I was surprised with how I've changed over the years. I found that I related more to Mr. Hand and could understand and sympathize with his frustration over irresponsible kids who won't follow the rules.

Man... I really have turned into a cold heartless bastard, haven't I??? Am I on the path to becoming one of those cranky crotchety old men like Mr. Hand?

Well - you could just OUTLAW whining! Back in the dark ages.... I did. It wasn't allowed in the house. :) AND yes, you do change points of view as you grow older... I'm beginning to "sound like" my Dad! And then when you consider that you have "my Dad" AND "Agnes" living together fortunately you 3 men can't hear the things we say in this house now!!!arll
