I happened upon
this quiz on the internet. It clearly defines the difference between a "
nerd," a "
geek," and a "
dork," and gives you a quiz to find out where you fit in.
According to their website:
A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

I took the quiz, and it declared that I am "
Tri-Lamb Material" because I scored high on both the Nerd and the Dork scales, but not so high on the Geek scale (

My lovely wife took the quiz, and it declared her "
Joe Normal" because she scored low on all three scales.
There's nothing like a good personality test to remind you of the fact that you
married up.

Follow-Up / Update: Our good friends C & V came over for New Year's dinner. I thought it was sort of ironic that V was making fun of me being a dork while he was wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the periodic table of the elements. Then again, I suppose the periodic table of the elements t-shirt would make you score higher on the nerd scale, not on the dork scale.
So does this mean I married down? ;-)
Oh man, all the other things that I could say right now, but I won't. :-)

BTW, you married a better woman than V did, I wouldn't have let you out of the house wearing that shirt! ;-) Though of course I was in sweats and it was just us they were coming to see...
Well, it was only you guys we were going to see. Usually he has a sweater on over the nerd shirt. He did finally get real shoes! I pick my battles...
Well, I surprised myself. I ended up "pure nerd". As for Sagey, the LW says it means you're just that much closer to martyrdom.
Loping Squid asked why I was on a dating website. This is how it happened: How did I end up on a dating website? First I was looking at the hits on my blog on site meter. I saw I had a hit from The Sub Report, but I hadn't written anything submarine related recently, so I clicked over to the Sub Report to see what was there. There were no links in the recent news section, but down on the right side was a list of submarine bloggers, and it's organized in order of how recently each blogger has posted. I had recently posted, so I was at the top of the list. I scrolled down the list to see who else was on the list. Most of the blogs there I had heard of before, but then I came upon one I didn't recognize called "WTFO" with the most recent post titled "Surface, Surface, Surface." That sounded pretty submarine related, so I clicked on it to check it out. Five blog posts down on the WTFO blog, the 22 May entry said he took this test that told him he was a Nerd. So I clicked on the link to go take the test myself. There you have it. That's how I ended up on a dating website. Believe it... or not!
Sniff sniff sniff... I think really you were trying to find a replacement for me and you are just using this quiz as a cover story. Sniff sniff sniff... I can't stop crying!
:-)
DH and I are both pure nerds. No surprise there, though.
"Pure Nerd
65 % Nerd, 30% Geek, 30% Dork"
Took the test and came out with exactly what I thought I would.
Yes, I would invite Bill & Malinda to dinner! Along with Johnny Depp and Robin Williams. :)
Man, I am the only saving grace in this family! :-)
